Harvest - Lighting Design

My Design concept for Harvest began with the requirements of the script. It had to fulfill a warm and cozy Indian apartment and be slowly transformed into a sterile cage. The director gave me the inspiration for pastel colors and floral patterns for the beginning, and harsh cool colors for the final look. The rest of my design was mostly informed by the set. Arranged in a tiered layout, the set left space for underlighting. Each tier loosely represented a different place. The inner area of the set was the apartment, and outer areas could be outdoors or further reaches of the interior space. Each tier had its own frontlight and toplight, allowing me to separate these spaces. Defining separate spaces, along with the underlighting, toplight, and patterns, was successful.
